Today was a very interesting work day. As a usually work at fire from 4-9 every night, today was different. Today, my job was catering. I met at the house in University Heights around 12:30 for preparation. The reception was for artist Claes Oldenburg, the designer of the Free Stamp sign in downtown Cleveland. This was a really cool experience being around this artist and observing some of his pieces that were featured around the house. My job was to pass around the hor dourves to the guests. According to the other employees working at the party, it was a very slow event. There were only about 25 guests and most of them had already come from a luncheon, so they weren't very interested in our food. As the day progressed, the most popular item turned out to be either the grilled cheese sandwiches with a tomato relish, or the mini short rib sliders. Although it took a while for people to actually start to try the food, some of the items in the kitchen started selling very quickly. All in all, it was a very laid back event. It was really interesting to see what goes on behind the kitchen during a catering. It is a lot less hectic than I would've imagined.
