Working at Fire has been a lot different than I thought it was going to be. Today, I was assigned to be a food runner. This means that my job is to keep track of the food on the tickets and make sure that each item is brought out promptly. I shadowed a man named Turan. He was by far the funniest guy in the restaurant. He likes to joke around with all of the other staff. Turan has a very specific system of keeping track of when the food is brought out and when to bring each item to the table. Wednesday wasn't too busy of a night. There were about 66 customers and they were very spread out throughout the night. Turan and the other staff joked that they could sleep through their job that night and it wouldn't make much of a difference. I struggled a little with the specific angle to place each dish, but after a few hours I started to get the hang of it. It wasn't too difficult to get the table and seat numbers down in my head. For the next few days I will work as a food runner. So far, working at Fire has been a great experience.
Hi Jacob! It sounds like you are having an exciting time at Fire. My sister just recently became a waitress, and I have heard her already complain about the table and seat numbers so it is impressive that you got it down already! After being a food runner for a few days, has it made you more or less likely in the future to work in the restaurant industry? I have heard that the industry is tough and that people can either love or hate being involved in it and would love to know your thoughts (even though it is just the beginning). Also, it is lucky that you love the man you are shadowing, Turan. Days are always more enjoyable when you are surrounded by people who can make others laugh. I am sure that he is not only loved by all of the staff, but the customers as well.
ReplyDeleteSince Fire is a locally owned business, do they both their produce locally as well or do they buy it from larger corporations for cost efficiency? Have you met the owner yet?
It sounds like a great restaurant and I hope the rest of your time there continues to be a great experience.
